MCR Operator/Engineer (Dubai)

Job OverView

The job holder will be responsible for monitoring the quality and accuracy of the on-air product, ensuring the transmission meets the company and government regulations, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and preparing programs for future playback.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Act as the first point of reception for all feeds coming in from the event sites / field, and ensures smooth receipt of all the information
  • Record and store the incoming feeds in a clear manner for future use
  • Monitor the quality of the incoming information using various quality control methods according to the broadcasting technical standards
  • Monitor transmission and related equipment Comprehensive understanding of a live 24 hour news environment.
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of satellite and optical fiber communication technology and also broadcast standards including. HD 1080i/P, SDI, AES/EBU, MPEG, PAL 625, NTSC 525, DVBS, DVBS2.ST2110
  • Understand IP networks (TCP/IP, FTP, Store and Forward).
  • Have experience with satellite television distribution systems
  • Coordinate with the Satellite and Assignment Desk on live shots
  • Have experience in satellite uplinks and downlinks as well as IP encoding/decoding solutions
  • Manage nonlinear recordings from various sources and assign the feeds to the archival team for storage onto the central database
  • Undertake routine testing, and coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance of backup transmission systems and ancillary equipment
  • Identify early signs of delay and difficulty and communicate them to the Editorial / Production Team
  • Keep updated with best in class equipment and work toward the upgrading of existing equipment
  • Locate and log faults and provides diagnostic support to technical services and external suppliers to resolve them
  • Coordinate with operators in the field to support remote operations via satellite and fiber
  • Maintain and develop standard operating procedures in-line with the department policies and guidelines
  • Monitor systems, WAN IP streaming links and satellite downlinks and uplinks
  • Manage and maintain network monitoring systems for Asharq.
  • Be able to use high-end Video measurement tools and troubleshoot potential issues
  • Have an understanding of Satellite reception and RF and all the components required

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics & Communications Engineering or relevant field.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in the related field, Connectivity over IP, Satellite, IP monitoring, signal quality, receiving and Ingest feeds.
  • Fluency in English.
  • The ability to monitor and drive Spectrum Analyzers for RF reception
  • Flexible work schedule to work anytime in a 24/7 operation (nights, weekends, holidays).
  • A high level of interpersonal skills.
